In this short story by Flannery O'Connor displays that many times fear of the future or the fear of what is new can lead to the destruction of many. The family in this story many times made statements about how they missed the old times and what they used to be. The father also shows signs of fear of the unknown or the new. He showed much hesitation in doing anything that was not in the plan or that of what was not know. The grandmother tries to use the fear of the Misfit to keep her son from going to Florida so she can go visit her friends in Tennessee. Fear drives this family into the ditch and because of giving in to the fear the family gets killed by the Misfit. The Misfit himself shows some signs of fear which are the reasons he does the awful things he does. The words the greandmother spoke to him at the end frightened him and caused him to kill her. Fear is a destructive force.

The town allows fear to control them and so they start doing crazy things to try to figure out why the minster is wearing this veil. Many of the townspeople feel that the veil is a way of the minister showing that he town is sinful and he trying to represent to the town to repent. Fear drives the people mad trying to figure out why the minister is doing what he doing. The Minister talks to Elizabeth and gets into an argument of if he should take the veil off for the fear of what the towns people may think of him and what they may do. He tells her that he does not fear what the town thinks and continues to wear the veil because of sorrow for the sinful world he lives in. He does not let fear control him but the town does and therefore does not accept the truth behind his veil.

Hello and welcome to my wiki. My personal philosophy statement is: fear is a blinding force keeping one from discovering the truth; therefore, live with no fear and challenge fear. Many times, fear can blind one from seeing the truth. I believe that fear can control the lives of many people and throughout history many dictators and leaders control their people using fear. The fear of many things can distract anyone from the real truth. Those who live in fear will never see life clear.
